US futures point to higher open on Wall Street

The trade dispute has dragged on for well over a year, battering financial markets and souring business and consumer sentiment.

The S&P 500 (SPY) dropped -0.84% today. Sector decliners led advancers 9 to 2 as shown below in the sector graph. Communication services (XLC), consumer discretionary (XLY) and energy (XLE) led decliners lower with losses of more than 1%. Financials (XLF), healthcare (XLV), industrials (XLI), materials (XLB), real estate (XLRE) and technology (XLK) each suffered small losses of less than 1%. Utilities (XLU) led advancers with a +1.17% gain. Consumer staples (XLP) enjoyed a minor gain of less than 1%.

The Dow Jones index lost -142 points (-0.53%) to close at 26,807. The Nasdaq ended losing -118 points (-1.46%) to settle at 7,993.

Trump Political Concerns Troubles Market

Stocks finished in negative territory on Tuesday as bipartisan politics led the market lower.

Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will announce a formal impeachment inquiry later on Tuesday after she meets with her caucus to discuss the call Trump had earlier this year with Ukraine’s leader, Volodymyr Zelensky, where he allegedly pressured him to investigate Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden’s family.

Now we have the facts, we’re ready,” Pelosi said.

Stocks trimmed some of their losses after Trump said he would release the full transcript of the controversial call. Trump said in a series of tweets he “authorized the release tomorrow of the complete, fully declassified and unredacted transcript of my phone conversation” with Zelensky.
