Dow futures point to triple-digit gains as earnings take center stage; US-China trade worries linger

U.S. stock index futures pointed to triple-digit gains on Tuesday, as investors awaited a flurry of earnings results from major companies. At around 4:30 a.m. ET, Dow futures were seen 95 points higher, indicating a positive open of more than 114 points. Futures on the S&P 500 and Nasdaq were also seen relatively upbeat on Tuesday morning.

The S&P 500 (SPY) popped +1.57% today. All 11 S&P sectors were in the green. Communication services (XLC), energy (XLE), industrials (XLI) and materials (XLB) led advancers with gains of +2% or more. Consumer discretionary (XLY), consumer staples (XLP), financials (XLF), healthcare (XLV), real estate (XLRE) and technology (XLK) each enjoyed gains of over 1%. Utilities (XLU) had a minor gain of less than 1%.

The Dow Jones index jumped +431 points (+1.77%) to close at 24,874. The Nasdaq climbed +111 points (+1.58%) to settle at 7,161.

Stocks Post Slight Recovery

Stocks posted a slight recovery on Tuesday as investors deal with a horrible October for the stock market. Investors are thinking about more US-China tariffs, the recent tech slide and fears over higher interest rates for the month’s decline.
