Dow futures point to lower open after China’s exports plummet

U.S. stock index futures were lower Friday morning, amid escalating concerns about a global economic slowdown. At around 03:20 a.m. ET, Dow futures slipped 76 points, indicating a negative open of more than 80 points. Futures on the S&P and Nasdaq were both seen slightly lower.

The S&P 500 (SPY) slipped -0.21% today. Sector decliners led advancers 7 to 4 as shown below in the sector graph. Energy (XLE) -1.87% led decliners down. Communication services (XLC), consumer discretionary (XLY), healthcare (XLV), industrials (XLI) and technology (XLK) each had small losses of less than 1%. Consumer staples (XLP), financials (XLF), materials (XLB), real estate (XLRE) and utilities (XLU) each had minor gains of less than 1%.

The Dow Jones index dropped 22 points (-0.09%) to close at 25,450. The Nasdaq ended in the red by 13 points (-0.18%) to close at 7,408.

Stocks Flashing Red Following Lackluster Jobs Report

Stocks extended their losing streak to 5 days after a lackluster February jobs report dampened investor sentiment. The US economy only added 20,000 jobs in February compared to an estimate of 180,000. This news comes after the ECB slashed its growth forecasts for the euro zone and added stimulus for banks.
