US futures higher ahead of November’s jobs report

On the data front, the Labor Department will release nonfarm payrolls for November at 8:30 a.m. ET.

The S&P 500 (SPY) rose +0.91% today. Sector advancers led decliners 10 to 1 as shown below in the sector graph. Energy (XLE), financials (XLF), industrials (XLI), materials (XLB) and technology (XLK) led advancers higher with gains of more than 1%. Communication services (XLC), consumer discretionary (XLY), consumer staples (XLP), healthcare (XLV) and real estate (XLRE each enjoyed small gains of less than 1%. Utilities (XLU) suffered a minor loss of less than 1%.

The Dow Jones index jumped +337 points (+1.22%) to close at 28,015. The Nasdaq jumped +85 points (+1%) to settle at 8,656.

Powerful Jobs Report Underlines Stable Consumer

Stocks popped higher Friday as a blowout jobs report showed the stability of the consumer.

The U.S. economy added 266,000 jobs in November, according to figures released by the Labor Department. Economists polled by Dow Jones expected a gain of 187,000. The unemployment rate fell to 3.5%, matching its lowest level since 1969.
