Dow futures lower as Wall Street’s rally is set to slow

U.S. stock index futures were muted Thursday morning as Wall Street’s rally on hopes of an imminent rate cut from the Federal Reserve looked set to slow. At around 2.00 a.m. ET, Dow futures were down 28 points and indicated a negative open of around 29 points, while futures for the S&P 500 and Nasdaq also edged lower.

The S&P 500 (SPY) added +0.61% today. All 11 sectors finished in the green. Consumer staples (XLP), energy (XLE), materials (XLB) and technology (XLK) each had gain of 1% or more. Communication services (XLC), consumer discretionary (XLY), financials (XLF), healthcare (XLV), industrials (XLI), real estate (XLRE) and utilities (XLU) each had small gains of less than 1%.

The Dow Jones index climbed +181 points (+0.71%) to close at 25,720. The Nasdaq advanced +40 points (+0.53%) to settle at 7,615.

Investors Optimistic Mexico Trade Talks Continue

All 3 major averages ended in positive territory on Thursday as investors remained optimistic that US Mexico trade talks would continue. US Mexico trade talks resume Thursday afternoon after Wednesday led to a “very good discussion.” Here are some of the US negotiating points according to CNBC. The US is considering postponing 5% tariffs on Mexican imports after Wednesday’s negotiations.
