US stocks set for a higher open after the Dow breaks 25,000

U.S. stock index futures pointed to a higher open Tuesday, continuing the positive sentiment that sent shares above the 25,000 threshold Monday for the first time since March. At around 04:38 a.m. ET, Dow futures rose 49 points, indicating a higher implied open of 46 points.

The S&P 500 (SPY) slipped -0.31% today. Sector decliners led advancers 7 to 3 as shown below in the sector graph. Energy (XLE) -1.33% and industrials (XLI) -1.23% led decliners down. Consumer discretionary (XLY), consumer staples (XLP), healthcare (XLV), materials (XLB) and technology (XLK) each closed with minor losses of less than 1%. Financials (XLF), real estate (XLRE) and utilities (XLU) each had minor gains of less than 1%.

The Dow Jones index lost -178 points (-0.72%) to close at 24,834. The Nasdaq gave back 15 points (-0.21%) to settle at 7,378.

Geopolitical Uncertainty Reflects Stocks Trading Range

Stocks slipped into negative territory after President Trump expressed doubt if the upcoming North Korean Summit would take place. The President also said he was “not satisfied” with the trade talks with China last week.
