The S&P 500 (SPY) inched higher by 0.09% today as Tech Leads Stocks Amidst Earnings Season Beginning. S&P sector advancers tied decliners by 5 to 5. Tech led the advancers. Consumer discretionary (XLY), energy (XLE), industrials (XLI) and materials (XLB) all gained less than 1% on the day. Consumer staples (XLP), financials (XLF), healthcare (XLV), real estate (XLRE) and utilities (XLU) all were negative less than 1%.

Amazon’s stock climbed 1.8 percent as the company got set for its so-called Prime Day. Prime Day features big deals for Amazon’s Prime customers. Tech stocks have been the best performers of 2017 thus far, with the sector rising 17 percent. But the sector has struggled over the past month, slipping 1.3 percent. (CNBC) Earnings season will kick off on Friday when JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup and Wells Fargo all release their quarterly results.
