US stocks set for a positive open amid lingering higher rates fears

U.S. stock index futures posted gains ahead of Friday’s open. Around 5:10 a.m. ET, Dow futures were up 110 points, indicating a rise of 176.52 points at the open. The Nasdaq and S&P 500 futures also pointed to a positive open for their respective markets.

The S&P 500 (SPY) rallied 1.60% today as investors bullish towards hot economy. All 10 sectors were in the green today as shown in the sector graph. Utilities (XLU) led the rally with a 2.61% gain. All 3 major averages rallied today as interest rates slipped from a multi year high. Volatility has been the theme this week as stocks have been in a wide trading range, posting strong gains in the morning only to come off those highs in the 3 previous trading days. That didn’t happen on Friday. The 10 year bond yield traded at 2.87% on Friday. The Fed came out with a report on Friday stating the labor market was near full employment but said there’s no pressure coming from wage gains which would spark inflation.
