Week in Review: Trump cuts deal with Kim Jong Un

Comcast bids $65B for Fox Assets in all cash deal, President Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort sent to jail and United States trade tensions heat up as Trump refuses to back down on tariffs.

The S&P 500 (SPY) inched up +0.02% this week. Sector advancers beat decliners 6 to 5 as shown below in the sector graph. Leading advancers higher was consumer discretionary (XLY) +1.99%, utilities (XLU) +1.75% and consumer staples (XLP) +1.40%. Healthcare (XLV) and technology (XLK) each had small gains of less than 1%. Energy (XLE) -3.55%, financials (XLF) -2.17% dragged decliners down. Materials (XLB), industrials (XLI) and real estate (XLRE) each had losses of more than 1%.

The Dow Jones index (DIA) fell -1% this week. The Nasdaq (QQQ) gained +1.46% for the week.

Economy Plus Dealmaking Leading Market Catalysts

Stocks ended Monday with slight gains as investors focused toward North Korea Summit. Stocks closed flat on Tuesday after investors were not impressed by the lack of details coming from the agreement of the North Korea Nuclear Summit. After markets closed on Tuesday, a judge approved the AT&T Time Warner merger. Equities deflated following the Fed hinting additional hikes on Wednesday. The sense of dealmaking activity on Wall Street lifted a majority of stocks on Thursday. Trade worries resurface leaving investors uneasy on Friday.
